Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (English)

Message from the Head of Department

Physiotherapists as health professionals are to perform physiotherapy and rehabilitation for people with congenital or acquired problems that may arise due to diseases or injuries. Additionally, physiotherapists perform preventive physiotherapy procedures in the context of protection and promotion of health of individuals with or without disabilities, and the whole society to improve their quality of life. So, they may deal with a baby from birth till adult life for him/her learn, practice or adapt the new skills to have a place in the mainstream of the society. On the other hand, they may deal with an adult who lost his/her skills and function due to a disease or injury to relearn activities such as walking, holding, grasping or performing daily living activities independently. Healthy sedentary individuals, recreational or professional athletes are also in the frame of the interest areas of physiotherapy occupation. Thus, physiotherapists are the health professionals aiming to give services to treat, rehabilitate, prehabilitate (prevention) and promote health as well as the quality of life of the individuals.

Our Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department within our Health Sciences Faculty has graduated its first students in the 2016 – 2017 training year and aims to train physiotherapists that will play an active role in training, management, and research, contribute to scientific developments, and become well-known globally in the physiotherapy and rehabilitation area.

Being a Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation specialist is among the most preferred occupations in the world at present, making entry very competitive. Our aim as the Istinye University Health Sciences Faculty's Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department is to make the best use of our highly qualified faculty to graduate physiotherapists that are adequately trained for both theoretical work and clinical applications. Istinye University provides its students the opportunity to participate in an unpaid internship period at more than 30 hospitals with advanced technology such as “Liv Hospital”, “Medical Park” and “VM Medical Park” so that they can use the theoretical training they received from our experienced and specialized faculty for practical applications. Our successful graduates will be able to find the opportunity to work at the “MLPCare Group” that includes the abovementioned hospitals within its framework.

Graduates of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department can find employment at state and private health care institutions, national and international inpatient treatment centers, private training and rehabilitation centers, prosthesis-orthosis production and rehabilitation centers, primary health care institutions, industrial facilities, schools, sports clubs, nursing homes, occupational rehabilitation and spa centers, private branch centers and home care centers.
